Draconian

views

Lately through Last.FM I’ve discovered this swedish gothic/doom band called Draconian, and I’m liking them quite a bit. It’s been since some time that my listenings have turned towards gothic/doom/funeral doom both in a light form (Evanescence, Lacuna Coil) and in a deeper obscure version (My Dying Bride), and I must say this band is attractive, both for the fact that they couple a deep surrounding grind voice with an ethereal woman voice, and for their lyrics topic, which is centered on literary cultured satanism.

Yeah, of course I’m not satanist. It’s all bullshit (as much as Catholicism), but the atmosphere is seductive.

Their new album is about to be published. It’s the fourth and it is called “Turning Seasons Within”. I think I’m going to listen to it.

Here is a song from their current album “The Burning Halo”. It’s called “The Morningstar”, which of course is Lucifer!

Facebook

In these days I’m trying FaceBook, one the currently more popular social network websites.

It’s surely way better than MySpace, which success I really can’t explain, being such an ugly, bloated and unusable site, full of annoying pop-ups, messed themes and silly music at every step.

FaceBook offers the most obvious social functions, like sharing photo albums, messaging, browsing by similar tastes or nearby locations, and also a whole set of applications which interact with other external social network websites, actually bringing them into FB. Furthermore, there is a wide choice of games and amusements that you can use together with your friends.

It’s interesting to notice that you can find and interact people only if you already know their name or their mail address, so ideally only those already knowing you in some way may trace and find you. Also, the website guidelines state that you should use your real name and your real data, even if it’s quite easy to fake a believable AKA that can pass their checks.

Moving to WordPress

views

I’ve decided to replace the News module being used until now with Xpress, WordPress for Xoops, the same that I’m using on UnixPortal. The reason is not the intention to move towards a blog oriented layout, but rather having a more versatile news/articles management compared to the one offered by the previous module.

With this new system I can finally display on the homepage the general info related to website and Community, while it was much more complex and difficult before.

Now that the site is open to the public I think it’s fair to give important information on the main page in place of a poor static page.

Public access!

After thinking about it for long time, I’ve decided that it’s not worth to keep the website so private as it’s been until now. Starting from now it’s possible to access most of sections without registering or logging in. It’s still required to register and to log in with your password when you want to add content or download files.

I hope this will make easier to browse the site and also make it a more enjoyable experience.
