Public access!

views

After thinking about it for long time, I’ve decided that it’s not worth to keep the website so private as it’s been until now. Starting from now it’s possible to access most of sections without registering or logging in. It’s still required to register and to log in with your password when you want to add content or download files.

I hope this will make easier to browse the site and also make it a more enjoyable experience.

I’ve added a gallery full of desktop wallpapers. It contains various images related to celebrities, landscapes and various. It’s mainly oriented towards widescreen formats, but there is also some regular resolution image.

UnixPortal

views

UnixPortal is another of my projects that has been sleeping for long time.

I wanted to create a portal dedicated to the Unix OS world, that I’ve always loved. So I looked for an available domain name and I registered unixportal.net, also starting to work on a website that I decided to host on Tru64 platform, to make things in the unix way..

But then, partly for my usual laziness, partly because making linux things work in more strict and traditional unix environments is not that easy, project went on a halt and I haven’t spent any more time on it.

Now that I’ve found new will to work on this portal I decided to bring this other project back to life too, hosting it on linux so there won’t be weird technical difficulties.

So it’s with extreme pleasure that I’m announcing the birth of www.unixportal.net, even if it’s still on the works.

My friend and colleague Krash is helping me in managing it, since we two represent the unix-oriented side of our office 😆

If any of you should like to visit it, just click on the above link 🙂

It’s obviously a much more technical and specific website when compared to this, which is dedicated to community and more personal interests

Squirrelmail Integration

views

I have realized Squirrelmail integration into the portal in a beta version. Squirrelmail is our traditional webmail system. This means I have matched color theme and graphics, and it’s possible to log into webmail from the portal. There is no relationship between portal userid/pass and those used in mail, therefore when you log into webmail you have to insert userid and pass again.

What is the LoneStar Network

views

“LoneStar Network” is the rather pompous name that I gave to my small home network.

Having always been a computer maniac, one of my dreams was to own many rare and once pricey machines, all able to run the various flavours of Unix operating system.

So when I started to earn money I bought on eBay a Digital Alpha server, an HP workstation with PaRisc processor, a Sun workstation, an old IBM Risc/6000 system.

Having them all up and running with public internet services was an appealing thought, but also too expensive. Also I have to admit that a modern x86 PC is faster than all of them together, and gives less headaches about configuration and compatibility. So at present time the only machines running are the Alpha server, my personal Windows workstation and the new Linux server, hosting most of services: DNS, mail, websites.
